Oh, Hello There.

I’m Michelle Cuevas, author, sometimes illustrator, and storyteller for folks of all all ages. 

I write stories about the unseen worlds all around us. By giving fears, dreams, ideas, superstitions, and other invisible forces lives of their own, I try to explore the absurdity and wonder of being human.

 

I live in a house by the woods with my husband, our dogs Fable and Indy, and one elderly albino rabbit.

 

Some of my favorite things are travel, the ocean, nature, poetry, quotes, tea, octopuses, trees, bees, train trips, Muppets, Jim Henson, time travel, Pixar, 70s dresses, painting watercolors, surreal hats, philosophy, British baking shows, being read to, falconry, and the final line of the book Charlotte's Web: "It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both."

Michelle Cuevas Bio

Michelle Cuevas is an award-winning author of novels and picture books. She graduated from Williams College and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from the University of Virginia, where she received the Henry Hoyns Fellowship. 

 

Cuevas is the author of eight books, including the Indie Bestseller and triple-star-reviewed The Dreamatics, Massachusetts Book Award-winning novel, The Care and Feeding of a Pet Black Hole, national best seller, The Uncorker of Ocean Bottles, and international best seller, Confessions of an Imaginary Friend. Michelle’s books have been translated into more than twenty languages and recognized by TIME, People Magazine, Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal, The Boston Globe, the Massachusetts Book Awards, Italy’s Premio Andersen, and the Flying Turtle Awards.

 

Her latest novel, The Dreamatics, has been optioned as a feature film by Warner Brothers. Her novels The Care and Feeding of a Pet Black Hole and Confessions of an Imaginary Friend are also in development as animated feature films. Cuevas has freelanced as a creative consultant for Fox Animation, and is the writer of Follow Your Heart, which qualified for the animated shorts category of the Academy Awards, as well as the STEM short Happy Birthday, Ada, commissioned by Google, which won 1st place at the 47th ASIFA-East Animation Awards.

Her hobbies include travel, watercolor painting, drawing, puppets, and spending time with her Bernese Mountain Dogs Indy and Fable.

 

Her favorite books are The Velveteen Rabbit and Charlotte's Web, as well as poetry collections by Shel Silverstein and Mary Oliver.

 

If she had to choose a job other than author, she would be a paleontologist.
